Top tips for smarter Energy Usage this Festive period

The festive season is a time of joy, celebration and often, higher energy bills. With lights twinkling, ovens baking, and air conditioners running, it’s easy for energy use to spike. But with a few smart strategies, small businesses and households alike can enjoy the festive season while keeping costs under control.

Here are our top tips for smarter energy use this Christmas:

Switch to LED Christmas Lights

LED lights use up to 80% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and last much longer. They’re safer too, as they emit less heat – perfect for decorating trees, windows, or shopfronts.

Use Timers for Decorations

Set timers to automatically turn off lights and decorations during daylight hours or after closing time. This simple step can significantly reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

Be Strategic with Air Conditioning

If you’re hosting events or running a retail space, set your air conditioner to a comfortable but efficient temperature (between 25 and 27 degrees). Keep doors and windows closed, and use ceiling fans to help circulate cool air.

Upgrade to Energy-Efficient Appliances

If you’re investing in new equipment this season, look for appliances with high energy ratings. They may cost more upfront but will save you money in the long run.

Claim Available Energy Relief

If you’re a small business in WA, check if you’re eligible for the $150 Small Business Energy Bill Relief, available for those in an embedded network. Individual households may also be eligible for a $150 credit if receiving electricity via an embedded network.

Smart energy use isn’t just about saving money, it’s about sustainability and making conscious choices that benefit your homes, businesses and the environment. A few small changes can make a big difference this Christmas.
